Business Psychology

Business psychology is a branch of psychology that deals specifically with the behavior of people in a business context. Students deal with the two fields of psychology and economics. The focus is on economically relevant aspects. In addition, business psychology deals with the behavior of people in the workplace and business management in organizations and the marketplace.

What are the main focuses?

Depending on the course of study, the following modules are part of the course content: fundamentals of business psychology, general psychology, market research and personnel psychology. In addition, you will deepen your knowledge of business administration during the study as well as your knowledge of general psychology, social psychology and developmental psychology. Depending on the place of training, the modules and the study content may differ.

How long does the education or training last?

If you want to do a bachelor's degree, the training usually takes 3-4 years, depending on whether you study part-time or part-time or full-time.

For a CAS, the duration is listed in semesters or course days and usually lasts 1 semester or 12-20 course days. For a MAS, the continuing education usually takes 3 semesters. These continuing education courses are usually completed on a part-time basis. 

How much does the education or training cost?

A degree program in business psychology costs between 4,500 - 6,500 francs, depending on the university and duration.

For continuing education, the cost can vary greatly depending on the training institution and type of continuing education. A CAS can cost between 6'000.- and 9'700.- francs. An MAS, on the other hand, is around 30,000.- francs. 

What are the requirements?

As a rule, a Berufsmaturität, a gymnasiale Maturität or a Fachmaturität must be presented for the study. Depending on the university of applied sciences, an additional 1 year of practical experience is required. However, other or additional admission requirements may be demanded in order to be admitted to the study program.

For the continuing education courses at a (technical) university (CAS, DAS and MAS), a university degree (Bachelor and Master) and at least a few years of work experience are required at most training locations in order to be admitted for the continuing education course. 

Career prospects after education or continuing education

Agraduates of a degree or further education in business psychology can work in a company in the following areas: HR departments, human resources management, corporate communications, marketing and market research, research and development, and in management consulting. However, graduates also have the opportunity to pursue advanced training in organizational psychology. Organizational psychology is a neighboring field of business psychology.

Salary as a business psychologist

On average, you earn as a business psychologist / Wirtschaftspsychologin in Switzerland around 78'000.- to 140'000.- francs per year. But that depends on which company and in which industry you work.
