How long does the training or continuing education last?

If you take a professional examination as an HR specialist or HR specialist, it usually takes 2-3 semesters and the training is completed part-time. By passing a professional examination, you will receive a federal certificate of proficiency.

In the area of continuing education, there are still various CAS, DAS or MAS programs in the area of human resources. These courses take between 1-4 years to complete and are usually taken part-time.

How much does an education or training cost?

For a professional examination, you must expect costs of 5,000 to 15,000 francs. The cost of a CAS varies greatly and ranges from 5,000 to 12,000 francs. The costs for the DAS or MAS courses are also always different. A DAS is between 15,000 and 30,000 francs, a MAS between 20,000 and 40,000 francs.

If you study at a university of applied sciences, the costs amount to about 800 francs per semester. However, this can vary depending on the place of education. 

What are the admission requirements?

For a professional examination, a federal certificate of proficiency and work experience in the industry are usually required for admission.

For continuing education CAS, DAS and MAS you need a diploma from a university (bachelor or master) and also work experience for admission.

For most universities of applied sciences, on the other hand, in addition to the vocational baccalaureate, specialized baccalaureate or gymnasium baccalaureate, you must provide evidence of at least one year of work experience in a profession related to the field. 

Job prospects after further education

As a rule, HR specialists work in an SME or in a large company as well as in private and public employment agencies. They take care of human resources, personnel management and look after the social security of employees. As an HR specialist, you make the best use of the skills you have acquired.

After the professional examination, you have the opportunity to take a higher professional examination as a dipl. head of human resources or training manager with a federal diploma. By passing a Higher Professional Examination, you will receive a Federal Diploma, which is to be valued higher than the Federal Professional Diploma.

After a few years of professional practice, you can also attach a postgraduate study and train, for example, as a dipl. Human Resources Manager. 

Salary as an HR specialist

In Switzerland, the average salary as an HR specialist is between 80,000 and 110,000 Swiss francs.
