Switzerland's dual education system is very well known internationally and is seen as exemplary. Vocational education and training in particular is a cornerstone of the Swiss labour market and Switzerland as a business location. The education system is divided into the following levels:
- Primary level (compulsory schooling)
- Secondary level I (compulsory schooling)
- Secondary level II (apprenticeship, grammar schools)
- Tertiary level incl. further education (higher vocational education and training, higher technical colleges, professional examinations, universities of applied sciences, universities, universities of teacher education, incl. further education)
Pupils learn important basics during compulsory schooling and can delve deeper into specific topics and gain practical experience from upper secondary school onwards. This transition is also already important for career choices and is supported by career counsellors. At the tertiary level, there are very broad opportunities for study and further education.
