Most often, biology is offered as a bachelor's degree at a university.

What are the main areas of study?

Students of biology learn to describe and analyze the structure of living organisms down to the microscopic level. Specialty areas include zoology, botany, and human biology. Compulsory modules often include zoology, botany and ecology to developmental biology, cell biology, microbiology and structural biology. Other subjects, content and specializations may include: ecosystems, organisms, neurobiology, molecular biology, evolutionary biology or biomedicine. Course content and weightings vary from school to school.

How long does a biology degree take?

Depending on the field of study or type of school, the length of study differs. The bachelor's degree can be completed full-time or part-time model and usually lasts between 6-10 semesters. If one still wants to follow the Master afterwards, this takes another 4 semesters.

What are the entrance requirements for an education in biology?

Depending on the training institution- and location, different requirements are necessary to be accepted into the program. Students should have great passion for science and laboratory work. Vocation, job and career: What does a biologist do?

Graduates with a degree in biology work in public services, industry, the environment, science, and education. Those who wish to pursue a career in research usually complete their studies with a doctorate. This is often followed by post-doctoral studies abroad.

Wage: What does one earn after studying biology?

The salary: In Switzerland, as a biologist, a salary Between 70,000.- and 103,000 francs is possible, this varies, of course, depending on the industry, degree and position (for example, molecular biologists earn more due to specialization). You can find potential employers here.
