<p>The Life Sciences major combines knowledge from the fields of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, engineering and medicine. The goal is to invent new methods for various diagnoses and to apply them practically. Biotechnology, on the other hand, focuses on the technical-industrial use of biological systems and living organisms. The goal is to develop new products and improve existing processes in the fields of food production and medicine.</p>

<p>Physics, chemistry and biology belong to the traditional natural sciences. In the meantime, the natural sciences have become interlinked with other subjects, with environmental sciences being considered part of the systems-oriented natural sciences. The focus here is on aspects of the animate and inanimate environment. Courses such as biology, physics or geography can only be studied at universities and the ETH. In addition, chemistry or environmental engineering can also be learned at a university of applied sciences.&nbsp;</p>
