Psychology
The study of psychology is concerned with human behavior as individuals and in groups. It looks at human development over the lifespan, and psychology can be classified as one of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. A psychology degree provides you with the skills to become a professional in the field of human behavior, something that comes into play in all areas of society.
Psychology is primarily an applied science. Acquiring empirical expertise and methodological knowledge are important topics in the study. There are different basic subjects such as developmental psychology, applied subjects such as school psychology and methodological subjects such as statistics. Possible specializations can be: developmental and personality psychology. Clinical psychology, psychotherapy, and psychopathology.
Depending on the field of study or type of school (e.g., college or university), the length of study differs. The bachelor's program can be completed in a full-time or part-time model and lasts between 6-8 semesters or 3-4 academic years. It is recommended to immediately follow the bachelor's degree with a master's degree. It is often possible to start the study program in spring or fall. A bachelor's degree program results in 180 ECTS credits. For a master's program, there are usually 90 ECTS credits.
A bachelor's degree costs between 4,500 -8,000 Swiss francs depending on the university (e.g. ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences) and duration, and at a higher technical college between 10,000 - 50,000 Swiss francs, again depending on the course of education. In order to gain admission, depending on the type of school, specific admission procedures must be passed before the study, so-called aptitude tests. Important for this are openness and willingness to perceive oneself and other people from different perspectives, as well as to constantly reflect on oneself and one's own actions. Language skills as well as knowledge of English should also be available.
