The 10 best learning tips

Valuable tips for studying

Exam phase means stress. But these 10 learning tips can significantly minimize or even prevent this. A tip in advance: Start repeating during the semester - and not just in the last week. It is also important to find your own learning rhythm and develop the feeling for which learning technique is best for you. This can be different highlighters for different topics or Post-its. But now to the tips:

Keep the overview

To avoid additional stress, it is worth starting to learn as early as possible. At the beginning, therefore, you should get an overview of the entire content. In addition to the slides from the lecture, notes from other students and information from student forums can also be helpful.

Learning planning

After the content has been captured, it should be divided into individual portions. The best way to do this is to orient yourself to the content blocks of the respective subject. Then you distribute the individual portions to the learning days. Use a calendar in which your learning days are fixed. Also plan enough buffer time for unexpected events.

Summaries

If you start preparing for the exam early enough, you should plan time for summaries. Summaries increase the learning effect enormously, as you deal intensively with the content again. For this purpose, note down the main statements in a first step and then the individual details in a structured manner. Important here: Try to write your summary as compact as possible!

Emotions ahoi

The learning material can be processed much more easily if it is connected with emotions. For this you can set it in a personal context and ask yourself the following questions: Have you ever had to deal with this topic in everyday life? What image comes to mind when you think of this topic?

Give back what you have learned

You should always try to give back what you have learned, because that's exactly what you will have to do at the exam. Therefore, for example, practice with flashcards to reproduce the material as well and as quickly as possible. An effective method to really keep what you have learned in your head is to repeat it briefly before going to bed the night before, so that you can see exactly what has stayed with you and what has not.

Go in a structured manner

Studying all day alone in the library is often not as effective as you think. Ideally, you learn intensively in the morning, give yourself some rest after lunch and use the afternoon to ask each other about what you have learned. In the evening you can then learn alone if you have noticed that you still have to catch up on material.

Treat yourself to a break

The ideal diet for learning has not yet been discovered. However, there are a few foods that promote the learning process. For example, coffee can be a good stimulant if concentration is waning. On the other hand, chocolate helps to calm down. It is especially important to drink enough water - especially in stressful learning days!

Recapitulation

On the last day before the exam, you should not learn anything new, but just repeat the previously learned material. For this you can, for example, ask yourself with the help of flashcards and thus check whether you can also reproduce all the important information.

Sleep is a must

During the learning phase and before the exam itself, you should give yourself seven hours of sleep. But don't worry: If you get a little less sleep, the adrenaline during the exam will make sure you stay awake. However, it is not advisable to study all night before the exam, because severe sleep deprivation has similar negative effects on the body as alcohol.
