Where do I learn best?

Valuable tips for studying

Where do I prepare best for exams? At the university? In the library? Everyone has to decide for themselves which learning place is best for them. In the following you will find advantages and disadvantages of possible places for your self-study.

Library

Advantage: The university library offers a variety of student workspaces. These are usually divided into quiet places and rooms where students can exchange ideas about what they have learned. In addition, you will find the necessary resources such as books on site. Disadvantage: Some university libraries are closed on weekends - except during exam periods. Therefore, an alternative should always be thought of at the weekend. Depending on the size of the library, there is also a real fight for the learning places during the exam period.

At home

Advantage: At home you don't have to stick to opening hours, but can decide for yourself when you start learning. You can better divide your learning day. Disadvantage: Some find it harder to learn at home, as they may be more easily distracted. On the other hand, students sit in the same boat in a library, which makes learning easier.

University

Advantage: At the university, there are usually learning places everywhere. After the lecture you can therefore stay there and do not have to look for another learning place. Disadvantage: Workplaces at universities are usually not very quiet, which is why they do not recommend themselves shortly before an exam.

Café

Advantage: If you don't feel comfortable in the library due to the constant silence, you may be better off in a café. Disadvantage: The relaxed atmosphere may contribute to the fact that concentration soon decreases or is more easily distracted. Therefore, always take headphones or earplugs with you.

Other learning places

As a commuter, you may have already gotten used to learning in the train. The train ride can certainly be considered as learning time. However, earplugs should be thought of here, because it can get very loud in the train. Another learning place can be nature. For example, the lake or the garden make it easier to internalize the learning material. Again, however, there is the danger of being distracted more easily.
