With a bachelor's degree in business administration or business economics or business administration, you can choose the specialization Controlling & Accounting. This specialization focuses on the presentation, analysis and management of the financial performance of a company. You then have the opportunity to do a Master's in Accounting and Controlling and thus deepen your knowledge even further.

There are also many offerings in the area of continuing education, such as the CAS Accounting and Controlling or the MAS Controlling and Consulting. Managers have the opportunity to complete an EMBA with a specialization in controlling in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of the tasks of corporate management or to deepen the associated knowledge. What are the focus areas?

Depending on the degree program or course, the modules taught include Advanced Management Accounting, Financial Management, Strategic and Operational Controlling, Advanced Financial Accounting, Group Accounting, Accounting, Controlling Processes and Target Group Communication of Financial Data. In order to have a closer practical relevance, case studies are often included. The study content may vary depending on the training institution. 

How long does the course of study or training last?

The study program can be completed full or part time and lasts 3 or 4 years. However, this may vary depending on the university. For a CAS, the duration is listed in semesters or course days and usually lasts 1 semester or 12-20 course days. For an MAS, the continuing education usually lasts 3 semesters. The EMBA usually lasts 1-3 years. 

How much does the training cost?

Depending on the training institution and the duration of the training, the studies cost between 4,200.- and 6,500.- Swiss francs.

For continuing education, the costs are somewhat higher: while a CAS costs an average of 7,500 francs, the cost of a MAS is 20,000 to 40,000.- francs. The EMBA is one of the most expensive training and costs between 20'000 - 120'000.- francs.

What are the requirements?

Depending on the place of training, various prerequisites are necessary to be accepted into the program. Often a Matura and one year of work experience must be presented. 

Most continuing education programs require a college degree and a few years of work experience. However, it can also be decided ""sur dossier."" 

Vocations and careers after graduation

After a bachelor's degree with a major in Controlling & Accounting or further education in Controlling & Accounting, you can work in the following career fields, among others: Controller, Accountant, Auditor, Fiduciary, Internal Auditor (ICS), and Business Consultant.
